CANCELLED: 2020 Sociology Graduate Conference at The New School for Social Research

Saturday, April 4, 2020 at 10:00 am to 9:00 pm

Wolff Conference Room, Room D1103, Albert and Vera List Academic Center, D1103 6 East 16th Street, New York, NY 10003, Room D1103

This year's Sociology Graduate Conference at the New School for Social Research follows its keynote speaker Ruha Benjamin's call to "imagine and craft the worlds [we] cannot live without, just as [we] dismantle the ones [we] cannot live within."

Join us for an opening panel with Anne Mische, Aris Komporozos-Athanasiou and Gianpaolo Biaocchi on futures thinking and social movements; graduate panels on crypto utopianism and digital dystopias, the future of the nation state and (collective) identity construction as well as of the family and living-together; workshops on how to overcome the racism and ableism built into our technologies and the academic landscape; a video screening on how to touch each other otherwise; and a keynote lecture by Ruha Benjamin entitled “A Sociology of the Future? Reimagining the Default Settings of Technology & Society.”

We are looking forward to dismantling our present and imagining alternative futures with you!
